Marie Smith Lewis

   Marie Smith Lewis, 88, of 141 Tunis Road, Winton, NC, passed away on Friday, December 1, 2017, in Vidant Medical Center, Greenville.

   Mrs. Lewis was born in Hertford County on November 30, 1929, and was the daughter of the late Lonnie Gaston and Sallie Bazemore Smith. A former instructor at the Wards Corner Beauty Academy, she later worked as a rural carrier with the United States Postal Service where she operated out of the Cofield Post Office. She was a member of Holly Springs Baptist Church.

   In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Wayne Clary; a brother, L.G. Smith; and by her sister, Helen Wall.

   Surviving are two sons, Steve Delano and Mike Clary; a brother, Kent Smith; several grandchildren, and other extended family members and friends.

   Graveside services will be held Sunday at 2:30 p.m. in Holly Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville, is assisting the family with arrangements.

   In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to Holly Springs Baptist Church.
