Marina Spruill Crummey

   Marina Spruill Crummey, 82, of 803 Bond Street, Edenton, NC, passed away on Thursday, December 7, 2017, in her home.      Mrs. Crummey was born in Washington County on July 2, 1935, and was the daughter of the late Robert Samuel and Mable Hufton Spruill. A retired supervisor with the North Carolina Department of Child Support, she had worked earlier with the Chowan County Department of Social Services, and as Office Manager of Chowan Hospital. A member of Edenton Baptist Church where she had formerly taught Sunday School, she was the first woman elected to serve on the Edenton Town Council, a member of the Business and Professional Woman’s Club where she had received the Woman of the Year Award, a member of the Elizabeth City Chapter of The Order of The Eastern Star, and had served as Worthy Matron of the former Edenton Chapter of the OES.      In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Margaret Spruill, and a sister-in-law, Janice Spruill.      Surviving are her husband, William Allen “Hawk” Crummey, with whom on December 11th, she would have celebrated 65 years of marriage; three daughters and their husbands, Angela and Jimmy Forehand, Dianne and Louis Nixon, and Regina and Wayne Copeland, all of Edenton; three brothers, Robert L. Spruill (Bernice) of York, VA, Otis Carney Spruill of Chesapeake, VA, and Henry W. Spruill (Mary) of Roper; nine grandchildren, April Bass (Patrick), J.C. Forehand (Kim), L.W. Nixon, Allen Nixon (Sarah), Ashley Venters (Hunter), Amanda Goodwin (Chris), Amber Young (Mark), Audrey Eley (Maurice), and Abby Tarkington (Corey); and 17 great-grandchildren.      Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2:00 p.m. in Edenton Baptist Church and will be conducted by her pastor, The Rev. David Brooks. A private burial will follow in Beaver Hill Cemetery. Friends may join the family in the social hall of the church immediately following the service, and all other times at the residence.      In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Edenton Baptist Church, 200 S.
