Joseph Benjamin “Ben” Fuller, 49, of 279 Willeyton Road, Gates, NC, passed away on Saturday, December 9, 2017, in his home where he was being cared for by his daughter and his mother.
Ben was born in Norfolk, VA on April 15, 1968. A Lieutenant with the Portsmouth Fire Rescue & Emergency Services, Engine 11, B Shift, he had worked with the department for 22 years, and was a member of the International Association of Fire Fighters. A veteran, he served with the United States Navy, and saw action in the Gulf War. He was a lover of music, playing the guitar, going fast, cracking jokes, the beach, and spending time with his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Wayland Fuller.
Surviving are his daughter, Lauren Alyssa Fuller; his mother, Patricia Willis Vaughan and her husband Jerry; his step-mother, Dee Fuller; his sister, Chelsea Fuller; two brothers, Charles W. Nethercutt and wife Gela, and Jeff Griswold; and his niece, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family members who love him deeply. Ben is also survived by his two cats; his former wife, and Lauren’s mother, Alicia Ubiera Fuller; and by his co-worker of many years that he introduced to everyone as his “son”, Curtis Young of Portsmouth.
A Celebration of His Life will be held Sunday, December 17th, at 3:00 p.m. in the Portsmouth Scottish Rite Temple, 3401 Cedar Lane, Portsmouth, VA 23703.
