Nellie Vann Byrum

   Nellie Mae Vann Byrum, 78, of Suffolk, VA, died Saturday, December 16, 2017 in Sentara Obici Hospital, Suffolk.

   Mrs. Byrum was born in Suffolk on August 3, 1939, and was the daughter of the late Walter, Sr. and Grace Ollie Bundy Vann. Retired from Lipton Tea following 38 years of employment, she was a member of Middle Swamp Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rufus David Byrum, a sister, Jeanette Vann Price, and by two brothers, Walter Jr. and Joe Vann.

   Surviving are her three daughters, Joyce Lassiter and husband Meiggs of Suffolk, Nancy Chappell and husband Charlie of Smithfield, VA, and Janet Stallings and husband Steve of Hobbsville, NC; a sister, Betty Stallings Davis of Belvidere, NC; and three brothers, Rusty and Bobby Vann, both of Suffolk, and Roger Vann of Franklin; five grandchildren, Jay and Heath Stallings, Joshua Lassiter, and Larry and Pauline Chappell; and three great-grandchildren, Kimberly and Jessica Peede, and Marleigh Chappell.

   Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. in Middle Swamp Baptist Church, 639 Middle Swamp Road, Corapeake, NC. A private burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may join the family Monday from 7 to 8 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville, NC.
