Richard Heath Stevenson, 80, of Hertford, NC, passed away Monday, December 11, 2017.
Mr. Stevenson was born in Newark, NJ on September 18, 1937, and was the son of the late Robert T. and Dorothy Martin Stevenson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Ann Stevenson, and by a brother, Herbert Stevenson.
A loyal employee of Hoffman-La Roche Pharmaceutical Company in Nutley, NJ, he worked there for 35 years in the area of Preclinical Research and Development with an emphasis on scientific liaisons, grant budgets, staff functions and university relations.
An avid sportsman and great competitor, his first love was fishing in his youth having spent summers at Martha's Vineyard in Massachusetts, an activity he loved and continued to share with his siblings, children and grandchildren. As an adult he became an avid tennis player, boater, and golfer, never refusing a challenge, becoming involved in various clubs and organizations related to these activities. He was a kind and gentle man who will be sorely missed.
Surviving are his wife, Dolores Sheerin Hynes Stevenson; six children, Carol-Beth Book and husband Brian of Bellefonte, PA, Richard M. Stevenson and wife Diane of Newton, MA, Matthew R. Stevenson of Fort Mill, SC, Patrick Hynes and wife Eleni of Dublin, Ireland, Kevin Hynes and wife Nuch of Arnold, MD, and Brendan Hynes and wife Cheryl of Parker, CO; a brother, Thomas Stevenson and wife Donna of McKinney, TX; a sister-in-law, Barbara Stevenson of Long Island, NY; and eight grandchildren, Cassandra and Jessica Book, Kate Stevenson, and Lea, Ryan, Katherine, Brendan Jr., and Abigail Hynes.
A Mass of Resurrection will be held Friday, January 12, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. in Holy Family Catholic Church in Elizabeth City.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to any chapter of the Alzheimer's Association, or online at www.alz.org.
