Carrie Odell Modlin Mitchell, 94, of 207 North Main Street, Colerain, NC, passed away Sunday, December 17, 2017 in her home.
Mrs. Mitchell was born in Northampton County on July 25, 1923, and was the daughter of the late Clarence E. and Lula Caroline Hughson Modlin. A homemaker, she was an active member of Colerain Baptist Church, its W.M.U., and had served as a Sunday school teacher and church secretary for many years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jessie Thurman Mitchell, her son, Jessie Thurman “Jay” Mitchell, Jr., and by a sister, Thelma Modlin Ewell.
Surviving are her daughter, Ann Mitchell Ladd and husband Kenneth of Colerain; a granddaughter, Melissa Ann Mitchell Haithcock and husband Chad of Nashville, TN; two sisters, Javan Beitinger of Anchorage, AK and Elvin Dean Perry of Eure; and two brothers, James Edward Modlin of Windsor, VA and Shelton Foy Modlin of Franklin, VA.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in Colerain Baptist Church, and will be conducted by her pastor, The Rev. Gary Saffell. Friends may join the family in the church social hall immediately following the service. A private inurnment will be in the Mitchell Family Cemetery, Harrellsville.
