Henry Hurley Mitchell, 72, of 306 First Street, Edenton, NC, passed away on Wednesday, January 3, 2018, in Vidant Chowan Hospital.
Mr. Mitchell was born in Chowan County on May 24, 1945, and was the son of the late Gibson Hurley and Donie Davenport Mitchell. Employed with the Edenton Cotton Mill for 30 years, he later worked with the NC Department of Corrections at the Elizabeth City unit. A member of Edenton First Assembly of God, he was a founding member and had served on the Board of Directors of the Edenton Cotton Mill Museum.
Surviving are his wife of nearly 36 years, Cecelia Williams Garrett Mitchell; two daughters, Sabrina Garrett Deans and husband Barry of Raleigh, and Betty Carol Garrett Garcia and husband Richard of Durham; a son, William H. “Buddy” Garrett and wife Michelle of Wake Forest; and nine grandchildren, Elizabeth, Hannah, and Rachel Deans, Evan, Sarah Grace, and Brielle Garcia, and Rebecca, Christina, and Jonathan Garrett.
Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in Edenton First Assembly of God, 1201 W. Queen Street, and will be conducted by his pastors, The Revs. Randy Pierce and Bernie Hurdle. A private burial will follow in Beaver Hill Cemetery. Friends may join the family Saturday from 3 to 4:30 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, or in the church fellowship hall immediately following the service on Sunday, or all other times at the residence.
