   Julius Poindexter “J.P.” Timberlake, III, 79, of 130 Country Club Drive, Edenton, NC, died Sunday, January 7, 2018, in his home.

 

   Mr. Timberlake was born in Raleigh, NC on May 2, 1938, and was the son of the late Julius Poindexter Timberlake, Jr. and Hazel Lee Wilder Timberlake.

 

   After graduating from Louisburg High School where he played baseball and basketball, Mr. Timberlake attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he served as a manager of the football team for his beloved Tar Heels. Upon graduation from UNC with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting, he was employed by the North Carolina Department of Revenue as an auditor. Then, he and his family moved to Edenton where he began his practice in public accounting that lasted almost 50 years. Mr. Timberlake also served two terms on the state board of the North Carolina Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

 

   Mr. Timberlake was a faithful member of Edenton Baptist Church where he served on the Finance Committee, as church treasurer, and as a deacon. He served in the North Carolina National Guard, and was a member and Past President of the Edenton Rotary Club where he was a Paul Harris Fellow.

 

   In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Marjorie White Timberlake.

 

   Surviving are his wife of 31 years, Patricia Ashley Timberlake; and his son, Julius Poindexter “Jay” Timberlake, IV and wife, Kimberly Brown Timberlake, of Holly Springs. Also surviving are Patricia’s children, Catherine Byrum Jackson, and husband, Mike; and Steven Thomas Byrum, all of Edenton. Together J.P. and Patricia shared eight grandchildren, Julianna, Rebecca, and Erin Timberlake, Elizabeth and Alex Jackson, and Vincent, Savannah, and Donald Byrum. Mr. Timberlake also leaves a brother, J. Ralph Timberlake, of Louisburg.

 

   A Celebration of Life Service will be held Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. in Edenton Baptist Church and will be officiated by his pastor, The Rev. David Brooks, and by Dr. Jesse Croom. A private inurnment will follow in Beaver Hill Cemetery.

 

   Friends may join the family in the Fellowship Hall of the church following the service on Wednesday, and other times at the residence.

 

   In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Edenton Baptist Church, 200 S. Granville Street, Edenton, NC 27932.

 

   The family wishes to express their deep appreciation and gratitude to the wonderful caregivers who provided devoted, loving care for their loved one.
