Lucille O. Hale

   Lucille Outland Hale, 93, of 300 Bosley Road, Sunbury, NC, passed away on Wednesday, January 10, 2018, in Sentara Leigh Hospital, Norfolk, VA.

   Mrs. Hale was born in the St. John’s community of Hertford County on July 8, 1924, and was the daughter of the late Jesse H. and Lucy Belle Leggett Outland. In years past, she had worked at Leggett’s Bargain Center in Portsmouth, and later retired from the General Electric Plant in Suffolk. Until just a year ago, she and her husband worked together and did the custodial work for both their church and First Citizens Bank in Sunbury. For many years, she was a member of Port Norfolk Baptist Church, but after their move to Sunbury, she became a faithful member of Beulah Baptist Church where she devotedly worked in the nursery.

   In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters, Ruby and Myrtle, and by brothers, Ralph and Cecil.

   Surviving are her husband of 74 years, Robert Gibson Hale; a daughter, Barbara Ann Hale Woolridge and husband Ed of Virginia Beach; a son, William S. “Bill” Hale and wife Karen of Elizabeth City; a sister, Elizabeth Mizelle of Ahoskie; five grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren.

   Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2:00 p.m. in Beulah Baptist Church and will be conducted by her pastor, The Rev. Tom Hall. A private burial will follow in Damascus Church Cemetery. Friends may join the family Friday from 7 to 8 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville, or in the social hall of the church immediately following the service on Saturday.

   In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to Beulah Baptist Church, P.O.
