William Ralph Proctor

William Ralph "Bill" Proctor, 80, of 2122 New Hope Road, Hertford, NC, died Wednesday, January 10, 2018 in Sentara Albemarle Medical Center, Elizabeth City.

   Mr. Proctor was born in Perquimans County on March 18, 1937, and was the son of the late Ralph Proctor and Edith Haskett Proctor Waller.  Retired from S & R Supermarket and later from Wal-Mart in Elizabeth City, he was a member of Berea Church of Christ and a charter member of Durant's Neck Volunteer Fire Department. 

   Surviving are his wife of seven years, Jean Keel Proctor; two daughters, Darlene Twine and husband Milford of Hertford and Rene Salamone of Virginia Beach, VA; four sons, Cecil Pierce and wife Sarita and Danny Pierce, both of Hertford, Wesley Proctor and Ralph Proctor and wife Lourie, both of Winterville; a step-daughter, Paige Keel Brock of Bear Grass; a sister, Alice Wilson of Virginia Beach; 11 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.

   In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wives, Emerald Byrum Proctor (mother of Darlene, Ralph, and Wesley) and Fay Saunders Proctor (mother of Cecil, Rene, Deanna, and Danny); a daughter, Deanna Sawyer; and by a sister, June Proctor.

  Funeral services will be held Monday at 2:00 p.m. in the Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Chapel, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, and will be conducted by Ministers Eddie Clark and Thomas Biggs.  Burial will follow in West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Elizabeth City.  Friends may join the family Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home, and all other times at the residence.
