Anna Wrae Rountree Smith

   Anna Wrae Rountree Smith, 65, of 146 Bares Beach Road, Hertford, NC, passed away on Saturday, January 13, 2018, in her home.

    Mrs. Smith was raised in Gates County and was the daughter of the late Ralph and Mildred Mitchell Rountree. The retired owner and operator of the former Smith's Jewelry, as long as her health permitted, she was a faithful member of Hertford Baptist Church.

    Surviving are her husband of over 46 years, L. Paul Smith, Jr.; her son, Jason Paul Smith, his wife Megan, and their children, Jackson and Maddie, all of Hertford; two sisters, Phyllis Nixon of Greenville, and Louise Ward and husband Frank of Hertford; a brother, James Ralph Rountree and wife Marie of Hobbsville; and her devoted caregiver, Diane Kirby of Hertford.

    A graveside service will be held Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. in Cedarwood Cemetery, and will be conducted by her pastor, The Rev. Don Carter.  Friends may join the family Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. in Miller & Van Essendelft, Funeral and Cremation Providers, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, or in the fellowship hall of Hertford Baptist Church immediately following the graveside service.
