Edith Lane Mansfield, 85, of 2221 Center Hill Highway, Hertford, NC, died Monday, January 22, 2018 in The Outer Banks Hospital, Nags Head.
Mrs. Mansfield was born in Chowan County on August 31, 1932, and was the daughter of the late Jerry Vernon and Lona Allen Lane. A retired cafeteria manager with Perquimans County Schools, she was a member of Great Hope Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Odus Columbus "Buddy" Mansfield; a son-in-law, Doug Pender; four sisters, Alice Davenport, Elizabeth Rogerson, Louise Layden, and Sarah Townsend; four brothers, Vernon, Thomas, Larry, and Walter Lane; and by a granddaughter, Jennifer Mansfield.
Surviving are her three daughters, Margaret Pender of Hertford, Frances Hammer and husband Stephen of Belvidere, and Brenda Newbern and husband Bill of Hertford; a son, Jerry Mansfield of Hertford; two sisters, Jessie Adams of Merry Hill and Evelyn "Jackie" Mansfield of Hertford; four grandchildren, Stephanie Burnside and husband Chris, Micheal Mansfield, and Rachel and Molly Newbern; and four great-grandchildren, Kathryn and Sarah Mansfield, and Aidan and Ariana Mummert.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 11:00 a.m. in the Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Chapel, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, and will be conducted by The Rev. Don English. Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery. Friends may join the family Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. in the fellowship hall of Great Hope Baptist Church, and all other times at Brenda and Bill's home, 197 Great Hope Church Road, Hertford.
