Iona Williams Baker

   Iona Mae Williams Baker, 103, of 1218 Sandy Cross Road, Belvidere, NC, passed away Wednesday, January 24, 2018 in Elizabeth City Health and Rehabilitation.

   Mrs. Baker was born in Perquimans County on February 25, 1914, and was the daughter of the late Herbert Lee and Mary Tuttle Williams. A homemaker, she was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wallace Riddick Baker, Sr.; son-in-law, John William Whiteside; daughters-in-law, Mary Ann Baker and Becky Baker; a grandson, Christopher Michael Baker; a great-granddaughter, Caitlin Hope Whiteside; sisters, Sobelia Winslow, Antoinette Sutton, and Mattie Lou Winslow; and by brothers, Howard, Henry, and Carroll Williams.

   Surviving are her daughter, Marilyn Baker Whiteside of McLean, VA; four sons, Wallace R. Baker, Jr. and wife Lois of Clayton, Donald W. Baker of Elizabeth City, Douglas C. Baker and wife Ann of Winfall, and Christopher M. Baker and wife Deborah of Pittsboro; a brother, Herbert Williams of Belvidere; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.

   Funeral services will be held Saturday at 3:00 p.m. in Bethany United Methodist Church, and will be conducted by her pastor, the Rev. Vickie Woolard. A private burial will be in the Baker Family Cemetery. Friends may join the family in the church social hall immediately following the service on Saturday, and all other times at the residence.
