Catherine Francetta Miller Godfrey, 86, of 682 Body Road, Elizabeth City, NC, passed away Wednesday, January 31, 2018 in her home.
Mrs. Godfrey was born in Perquimans County on September 15, 1931, and was the daughter of the late William Elliott and Margaret Lillie Walker Miller. Retired from the Utilities Department of the City of Elizabeth City after 30 years of employment, she was a lifetime member of Emmanuel Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Belmert Godfrey.
Surviving are her two daughters, Cathy Francetta Godfrey Eckert and husband Keith of Farmington, MI and Sheila Diane Godfrey Carignan and husband John of Elizabeth City; three sisters, Margaret Whitley of Suffolk, VA, Emogene Gentry of Newport, and Barbara Ann Oyler of St. Pauls; a brother, William B. Miller of Elizabeth City; five granddaughters, Crystal, Sheena, Amber, Christina, and Catrina; eight great-grandchildren, Aiden, Colson, Scarlett, Charlize Francetta, Baron, Brody, Ryder, and Taj; her caregiver, Dora Brooks; and special friend and caregiver, Chris Brown, who unselfishly gave of himself and dedicated his life to our mother's care.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:00 a.m. in the Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Chapel, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, and will be conducted by Pastor Kevin Senn. A private burial will be in Old Hollywood Cemetery. Friends may join the family in the funeral home immediately following the service on Saturday, and all other times at the residence.
The family would like to express their deep appreciation to the staff of Albemarle Home Care and Hospice for the care provided to them in their time of need.
