William Earl Carter, Sr.

   William Earl "Tiny" Carter, Sr., 75, of Goodwin Mill Road, Hertford, NC, died Wednesday, January 31, 2018 in Vidant Medical Center, Greenville.

   Mr. Carter was born in Martin County on October 12, 1942, and was the son of the late Robert William Carter and Nellie Carter Burgess. A retired Sergeant from the US Army having served in Vietnam, he was a member of Vietnam Veterans of America, and attended Calvary Pentecostal Holiness Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mavis Eager, and by a brother, Charles Carter.

   Surviving are his wife, Mary Ann Carter; a son, William Earl Carter, Jr. of Elizabeth City; two daughters, Tammy Wall of Kentucky and Annie Carter of Colorado; five grandchildren; four sisters, Brenda Rice of New Bern, Debbie Creef of East Lake, Diane Spruill of Creswell, and Donna Reid of Elizabeth City; a brother, Johnnie Carter of Alabama; and many nieces and nephews. Also surviving are Mary Ann's two children, Dale Copeland and Dana Ambrose, both of Hertford; three grandchildren; a great-grandson; and a great-great-grandson.

   A graveside service will be held Monday at 11:00 a.m. in the Dail Family Cemetery, Hunter's Fork Road, Tyner, and will be conducted by Pastor Joe Jackson.
