Hilda Rae Harrell Goodwin, 84, of 750 Chambers Ferry Road, Edenton, NC, passed away on Saturday, February 3, 2018, in Edenton Primetime.
Mrs. Goodwin was born in Chowan County on October 13, 1933, and was the daughter of the late Isaac Lester and Lonie Evans Harrell. A graduate of East Carolina Teacher’s College, now East Carolina University, with a degree in Accounting, she was a homemaker and farm wife, and in earlier years worked as a bookkeeper with Home Feed & Fertilizer. Raised in the fellowship of Rocky Hock Baptist Church, after marriage she became a faithful member of Edenton Baptist Church, where she was active in its W.M.U. and Laura Harrell Sunday School Class. She also enjoyed membership in the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Colonial Dames of America, and the Chowan County Extension Homemakers Club.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Wallace Goodwin, Jr.; two sisters, Marjorie Privott and Shirley Platts; a brother, Wilbur Harrell; and a son-in-law, Charles Collins.
Surviving are two daughters, Kathryn G. Ward and husband Bradley of Tyner, and Anna G. Collins of Raleigh; a son, Joseph W. Goodwin, III and wife Kim of Edenton; two grandchildren, Bradley Harrell of Tyner, and Sarah Goodwin of Raleigh; two brothers, Gerald Harrell of Raleigh, and Gene Harrell and wife Diann of Cleveland, TN; and two brothers-in-law, Joe Privott of Chesterfield, MO, and Paul Platts of Edenton.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. in Edenton Baptist Church and will be conducted by The Revs. David Brooks and Patrick Cardwell. Burial will follow in Beaver Hill Cemetery. Friends may join the family at the residence.
