Col. Stephen Edward O'Neill

   Col. Stephen Edward O’Neill, US Army, Ret., 79, of 106 Blair Drive, Edenton, NC, passed away on Thursday, February 8, 2018, in Vidant Medical Center, Greenville.

   Col. O’Neill was born in Enderlin, North Dakota, on July 16, 1938, and was the son of the late Thomas Lloyd and Bernice Tostenson O’Neill. A veteran of the Vietnam War, he served in the Army for 29 years. Memberships associated with his career included the Retired Officers Association, the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States, and the Military Officers Association of America. His active community involvement was support of the NC Sheriff’s Association, the Chowan Hospital Foundation, the American Diabetes Association, St. Anne Catholic Church, Friends of the Shepard-Pruden Memorial Library, and the Penelope Barker House.

   Surviving are his wife of nearly 57 years, DeeAnn Deibert O’Neill; two daughters, Dawn Sudhoff and husband, Paul, of Cocoa Beach, FL, and Carmen Armiger and husband, Scott, of Marriottsville, MD; and four grandchildren, Devin O’Neill Sudhoff, and Brooke Nicole, Sean O’Neill, and Grace Ann Armiger. Also surviving are a cousin, Peggy Bahr; and his in-laws, Ron and Nancy Deibert, Ken and Becky Deibert, and Jayne and Dennis Thueringer.

   A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, February 16th, at 11:00 a.m. in St. Anne Catholic Church, and will be officiated by The Rev. Carlos Arce and Deacon Frank Jones. Burial with full military honors will be held at a later time in Arlington National Cemetery.

   Friends may join the family in the Parish Hall of the church following the service on Friday, and other times at the residence.
