George David "Sam" Trueblood, Jr., 80, of 729 Wynne Fork Road, Hertford, NC, died Tuesday, February 20, 2018 in his home. Mr. Trueblood was born in Hertford County on October 11, 1937, and was the son of the late George David, Sr. and Geneva Smith Trueblood. A retired truck driver having been employed with L. R. Foreman & Son and Hess Oil Company, in earlier years he had owned and operated George Trueblood & Son Building Supply. Among his many enjoyments in life included his love of gardening, collecting old trucks and cars, and his Farmall tractor. He attended Hertford Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, William "Tom" Trueblood. Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Joan Madre Trueblood; a daughter, Gwyn Cloninger and husband Roy of Lancaster, SC; a son, David Trueblood of Willow Spring; a sister, Evelyn Bunch of Plymouth; three grandchildren, Katy, Will, and Rob (Amy); and two great-grandsons, Daniel and Harrison. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2:00 p.m. in the Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Chapel, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, and will be conducted by The Rev. Don Carter. A private burial will be held in Cedarwood Cemetery. Friends may join the family in the fellowship hall of Hertford Baptist Church immediately following the service on Friday, and all other times at the residence.
