Shelton Ray Stallings, 90, of 208 Hobbsville Road, Hobbsville, NC, passed away on Tuesday, February 27, 2018, in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.
Mr. Stallings was born Perquimans County on August 5, 1927, and was the last surviving of 10 children born to the late Joseph Herbert and Lethia Rountree Stallings. A 1945 graduate of Hobbsville High School, he was a retired farmer, had owned Stallings Hog Market, and had been a dealer for the former Swift Fertilizer Company. A faithful member of Hobbsville Baptist Church, he had served as a Deacon, Superintendent of Sunday School, and had been a member of its Adult Choir. Community involvement included the Hobbsville Ruritan Club, being a charter member of the Hobbsville Volunteer Fire Dept., and serving on the Board of Directors of the Albemarle 4-H Livestock Show & Sale.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Audrey Cross, Helene Wiggins, and Joyce Overman; and by brothers, J.H. Jr., Dewey, Delton, Lloyd, Rountree, and Claxton Stallings.
Surviving are his wife of nearly 63 years, Viva Yeager Stallings; three sons, Steve Stallings and wife, Katherine, Marty Stallings and wife, Toni, and Bert Stallings, all of Hobbsville; five grandchildren, Jasmine Roach and husband, Brian, Jessica Vibbert, and Whitney, Kinnan, and Joseph Stallings; three great-grandchildren, Macy and Nickolas Roach, and Landon Vibbert; a sister-in-law, Faye Stallings of Hertford; and a brother-in-law, Enoch Yeager of Haymarket, VA.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 2:00 p.m. in Hobbsville Baptist Church and will be conducted by his pastor, The Rev. Tim Dannelly. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may join the family in the social hall of the church immediately following services, and all other times at the residence.
