Terence Aubrey "Terry" Facey, 75, of 108 Santee Circle, Hertford, NC, passed away Tuesday, February 27, 2018 in his home.
Mr. Facey was born in Bedford, England on October 21, 1942, and was the eldest son of the late Leonard and Elsie Facey, formerly of England and Australia. Educated in England, he graduated from Borough Polytechnic, London with a B.S. in Physics, and later completed a Technology Managers Program at Babson College School of Continuing Management Education in Wellesley, MA.
Mr. Facey married Beryl Alexander on September 23, 1967 at Peacehaven Parish Church, Peacehaven, East Sussex, England and emigrated to the United States October 24, 1967, becoming a U.S. Citizen June 18, 1976. He lived in Danbury and New Fairfield, CT until May 2002, when he retired to Albemarle Plantation in Hertford.
Employed by Perkin-Elmer in Wilton and Danbury, CT from October 1967 until his retirement in April 2002, he worked on SkyLab prior to working on the Hubble Space Telescope for 22 years; from its inception in 1970 reaching the position of Chief Scientist. At the time of his retirement, he was working on numerous classified Defense projects.
An avid sailor, he loved teaching both youth and adults to sail. One of his proudest moments was teaching his grandchildren to sail. His real passion was skippering Tuff Mary, a 33 foot sailboat, as he loved racing and pleasure sailing her on the Albemarle Sound. He also enjoyed playing golf on the Sound Links Golf Course.
Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Beryl; a daughter, Karen Petersen and her husband, Justin, of Bethlehem, CT; and two grandchildren, Taylor and Devin Alward, of Sherman, CT. Also surviving are two brothers, Keith Facey and his wife, Joan, and Derek Facey and his wife, Janet, both of Australia; a niece and two nephews of England, and three nieces and a nephew of Australia.
A Celebration of His Life will be held in the Albemarle Plantation Clubhouse at a later date.
