Raymond Earl Baker

   Raymond Earl Baker, 94, of 103 Driftwood Road, Hertford, NC, died Wednesday, February 28, 2018 in his home.

   Mr. Baker was born in Pitt County, NC on December 2, 1923, and was the son of the late Jesse O. and Beulah Jones Baker. A retired supervisor having been employed in the Maintenance Department of the A/C and Refrigeration Systems at Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., he was a member of Hertford United Methodist Church. He was a Navy veteran. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Rice Baker; a daughter, Debra Baker; a son, Kevin R. Baker; two sisters, Athelene and Maydie; and by a brother, Jay.

   Surviving are his daughter, Patricia B. Bittner and husband Richard of Hertford; a son, Michael E. Baker and wife Darrilyn of Richmond, VA; a sister, Lillian Ballard of Falls Church, VA; a brother, Lester Baker of Laurel, MD; four grandchildren, Tara Talbott, Michael Baker, Kathleen Baker, and Christopher Bittner; and three great-grandchildren, Brenden, Nolan, and Hayden.

   Graveside services will be held Monday at 2:00 p.m. in Fairfax Memorial Park, 4401 Burke Station Road, Fairfax, VA 22032. Friends may join the family Sunday from 4 to 5 p.m. in Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Home, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford.
