Jack Donald Bateman

   Jack Donald Bateman, 74, of Chesapeake, VA, passed away on Tuesday, March 13, 2018, in Chesapeake Regional Medical Center.

   Mr. Bateman was born in Chowan County, NC, on November 16, 1943, and was the son of the late Benjamin F. and Grace Cale Bateman. A graduate of East Carolina University, he was employed with Overnight Transportation for over 20 years, he later worked in real estate sales before his retirement. A member of Great Bridge Baptist Church, and the Virginia Country Music Association, he was known throughout the area for playing and singing with The Jack Bateman Band.

   In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Benny Cale Bateman.

   Surviving are his wife of nearly 40 years, Margaret Whitmer Bateman; his daughter, Elizabeth Grace Bateman and fiancé Robert Williams of Virginia Beach; two brothers, Dr. Durward F. Bateman and wife Shirley of Raleigh, and David T. Bateman and wife Fay of Tyner; and three grandchildren, Emily Grace, Aubrey Grace, and Nathan Joshua.

   Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 17th at 2:00 p.m. in Ballard’s Bridge Baptist Church and will be conducted by The Rev. Ron Parr. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. There will a time for visitation in the Family Life Center of the church immediately following the service.

   A memorial gathering will be held at Frank’s Truck Stop, 4717 West Military Hwy, Chesapeake, VA 23321 (757-488-8337) on Thursday, March 22nd from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.

   In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the family for assistance with medical and other related expenses. Those donations may be made to Margaret Bateman, 4600 Old Princess Anne Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23462.
