Joan Burpee Mickey

   Joan Marie Burpee Mickey, 84, of 131 Windward Drive, Hertford, NC, passed away Wednesday, March 14, 2018 in Sentara Albemarle Medical Center, Elizabeth City.

   Mrs. Mickey was born in Houlton, ME on November 24, 1933, and was the daughter of the late George Edward and Marion Ryder Burpee. She attended Bethel Baptist Church, and enjoyed bowling and playing Bingo. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Edward Elmore Mickey, her son, Edward Elmore Mickey, Jr., a sister, Rosella Betourne, and by two brothers, Jack and Vernon Burpee.

   Surviving are her daughter, Janneil Graham and husband Robert of Chester, VA; a brother, Vance Burpee of Hertford; a brother-in-law, Arthur Betourne of Wake Forest; four grandchildren, Ashleigh, Aleisha, Jessica, and Jackie; and eight great-grandchildren.

   A memorial service will be held Saturday at 1:00 p.m. in Bethel Baptist Church, and will be conducted by The Rev. Gregory Owenby. Friends may join the family in the church fellowship hall immediately following the service on Saturday.
