Born in Chowan County on July 28, 1952, he was the son of the late Alphonso and Louise Hassell Goodwin. A facility manager, he was a longtime employee of the Aviation Logistics Center at the US Coast Guard Base in Elizabeth City.
Surviving are his wife of 44 years, Susan Markham Goodwin; three daughters, Felicia G. Walz and husband Damien of Annapolis, MD, Ashley G. Meeker and husband Chad of Wilmington, and Bettina G. Simpson of Kill Devil Hills; a son, Judson K. Goodwin and wife Sarah of Vallejo, CA; 11 grandchildren, Ethan, Lauren, Mara, Chloe', Alec, Kira, Benjamin, Joshua, Adalyn, Colin, and Savannah. Also surviving are two sisters, Kathy G. Jones and husband Bobby of Elizabeth City and Gwen G. Richey and husband Floyd of Bradenton, FL; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.
Graveside services will be held Friday at 2:00 p.m. in West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family at the graveside following the service. Miller & Van Essendelft, Funeral and Cremation Providers, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, is assisting the family with arrangements.
The family would like to express their deep appreciation to all who have helped care for them during their time of need. His jokes and "Big" infectious smile will be greatly missed.
