Herbert Elton "Bush" Harrell, Jr., 64, of Elizabeth City, NC, passed away Saturday, March 24, 2018 in Elizabeth City Health and Rehabilitation.
Mr. Harrell was born in Chowan County on November 17, 1953, and was the son of the late Herbert Elton, Sr. and The Rev. Eula Edla Copeland Harrell. A retired welder, he was raised in the fellowship of Happy Home Pentecostal Holiness Church An avid fisherman and hunter, he enjoyed membership in the Ryland Hunting Club, and also had a passion for going to yard sales. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Rose Hollowell.
Surviving are his long-time companion, Phyllis "Ma" Monds of Elizabeth City; a son, Daniel Harrell and wife Sharon of Durham; two brothers, Terry Harrell and wife Cynthia of Elizabeth City and Jerry Harrell and wife Ryan of Edenton; Phyllis' children whom he raised as his own, Mike Monds of Camden and Michelle Monds of Elizabeth City; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two aunts, an uncle; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. in Happy Home Pentecostal Holiness Church, and will be conducted by The Rev. Walter Byrum. A private burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may join the family Monday from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. in Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Home, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, and other times at the home of Linwood "Buddy" and Michelle Williams, 501 Dobbs Street, Hertford.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family to help defray medical and other related expenses.
