Elmer Lee Overton, Sr.

   Elmer Lee Overton, Sr., 81, of 119 Emperor Landing Road, Edenton, NC, passed away on Thursday, April 12, 2018, in his home.

   Mr. Overton was born in Perquimans County on February 21, 1937, and was the son of the late Harry, Sr. and Betty Skinner Overton. A retired shipping foreman with Weyerhaeuser Corp. after 32 years of employment, he had worked in earlier years as meat cutter with A&P and P&Q Supermarkets in Hertford, Edenton, and Plymouth. A faithful member of Macedonia Baptist Church, he had formerly served as the Director of the Youth Choir, and through the years had been asked to sing at many weddings and funerals in the area. Other areas of service included his 10 years in the North Carolina National Guard.

   In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Jane Keech, and by brothers, Harry Jr., Alton, and Eddie Overton.

   Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Helen Jones Overton; two sons, Elmer Lee Overton, Jr. and wife Tammy, and Bradley Erie Overton and wife Renee, and a grandson, Ryan Lee Overton and wife Logan, all of Edenton; four sisters, Sallie O. Hare of Edenton, Shelby O. Hopkins of Renton, Washington, Nell O. Seymour of Elizabeth City, and Helen O. Hunter of Hertford; and two brothers, Bobby Overton of Wurtland, KY, and Carl Overton of Hampton, VA.

   Funeral services will be held Saturday at 4:00 p.m. in Macedonia Baptist Church and will be conducted by his pastor, The Rev. Bob Young. A private burial will follow in Beaver Hill Cemetery. Friends may join the family at the residence.
