Barbara Layton Wiseman

   Barbara Ann Layton Wiseman, 85, of 1243 Cofield Point Road, Edenton, NC, passed away on Saturday, April 21, 2018, in Vidant Chowan Hospital.

   Mrs. Wiseman was born in Chowan County on May 4, 1932, and was the daughter of the late Jeppie W. and Katie Belch Layton. Retired as an Audio Visual Clerk from Norfolk Naval Shipyard, she had in earlier years worked in the meat department of Colonial Stores, with Virginia Electric & Power Company (VEPCO), and as a receptionist with The Children’s Hospital of the Kings Daughters in Norfolk.

   In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Sandra Layton Barker; and by a brother-in-law, James K. “Jim” Diven.

   Surviving are her son, Robert E. Wiseman, Jr. of Edenton; a sister, Gloria Layton Diven of Chuckatuck, VA; a brother-in-law, Harold “Hal” Barker of Chesapeake, VA; and other friends and extended family members.

   A memorial service will be held Sunday at 4:00 p.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, and will be conducted by the Rev. Jay Rivenbark.
