James Edward "Jr." Barnes, Jr., of 375 Short Cut Road, Barco, NC, passed away Friday, April 27, 2018 in his home.
Mr. Barnes was born in South Mills on May 3, 1936, and was the son of the late James Edward, Sr. and Elizabeth Sawyer Barnes. Raised in South Mills until his mid-teens, he then moved to Currituck County where he lived until his death. James and his wife Bettie lived many years on Short Cut Road, where together they enjoyed some of their greatest pleasures in life, hunting and gathering hen eggs. A mechanic, he had retired from the City of Chesapeake.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Phyllis Barnes Miller; a son, Robert Franklin Barnes, Sr.; a grandson, Stephen Spruill; a granddaughter, Nikki Barnes; three sons-in-law, Rhett Miller, Charles Spruill, and John Harris; and by two brothers, Lloyd Barnes and Johnnie Smithson.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Bettie Eason Barnes; a son, James Edward "Buddy" Barnes, III and wife Loretta; three daughters, Sue Barnes Farlow and husband Jim, Rita Barnes Sauls and husband Randy, and Nan Barnes Haislip and husband Sam; 12 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
No services are planned at this time. Friends may join the family at the residence.
