Johnnie Thomas Lassiter, Jr.

   Johnnie Thomas Lassiter, Jr., 81, of 099 Catherine Creek Road, Hobbsville, NC, passed away on Thursday, May 3, 2018, in Vidant Chowan Hospital, Edenton.

   Mr. Lassiter was born in Gates County on November 6, 1936, and was the son of the late John Thomas, Sr. and Maxie Piland Lassiter. A retired Nuclear Inspector with Newport News Shipbuilding & Dry Dock Corp., he was a member of Warwick Baptist Church, and the Loyal Order of The Moose, #141, Suffolk, VA, where he had earned his Pilgrim Degree of Merit.

   In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy Mae Freeman and Louise L. Gurganus; and by a brother, Frank Lassiter.

   Surviving are his wife of 62 years, JoAnn Ward Lassiter; their children, David Thomas Lassiter, Sr. and wife, Debbie, of Hobbsville, Linda JoAnn Lassiter Clark and husband, Timothy, of Scotland Neck, Joyce Elaine Lassiter Fox and husband, Tony, of Sunbury, and Johnnie Thomas Lassiter, III of Hobbsville; eight grandchildren, David Jr., Erin, Heather, Matthew, Gwendolyn, Justin, Tristan, and Stephanie; and eight great-grandchildren, Thomas, Audrey, J.T., Lucas, Katelyn, Paxton, Avett, and Taylor.

   A memorial service will be held Sunday at 4:00 p.m. in Warwick Baptist Church and will be conducted by Pastors Kip Vinson and Tom Holland. The private family burial will be held at a later time. Friends may join the family in the social hall of the church immediately following the service, or all other times at the residence.

   The family asks that flowers be omitted, and contributions in his memory be made to either the Hobbsville Volunteer Fire Dept., in care of Roderick Wiggins, 44 Sandy Cross Road, or to Warwick Baptist Church, 4314 Virginia Road, both in Hobbsville, NC 27946.
