Carolyn Spivey Layton

   Carolyn Vaughn Spivey Layton, 82, of 2510 Rocky Hock Road, Edenton, NC, passed away on Monday, May 28, 2018, in Vidant Inpatient Hospice in Greenville where she was surrounded by her family.

   Mrs. Layton was born in Chowan County on May 16, 1936, and was the daughter of the late McCoy Spivey and Nora Hofler Spivey Blanchard. A homemaker and farmer’s wife, she was a member of Rocky Hock Baptist Church where for over 30 years she sang in the Adult Choir, and was a longtime teacher in the children’s Sunday School.

   A devoted wife, and loving mother and grandmother, she is survived by her husband of 64 years, Sherlon Cale Layton; a daughter, Charlotte Ann Layton of Front Royal, VA; a son, Johnny McCoy Layton and wife, Lynne, of Edenton; two sisters, Jean S. Winslow and husband, Fred, of Hobbsville, and Ann S. Lovegreen and husband, Robert, of Narragansett, RI; two grandchildren, Emily Layton Nobles and husband, John, of Morehead City, and John T. Layton and wife, Liza, of Edenton; and a great-grandson to be born in September to Emily and John.

   Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2:00 p.m. in Rocky Hock Baptist Church and will be conducted by her pastor, Dr. James Horton. The burial will follow in the Layton Family Cemetery. Friends may join the family in the Family Life Center of the church immediately following the service, or all other times at Johnny and Lynne’s home, 546 Rocky Hock Creek Road, Edenton.

Box 8489, Greenville, NC 27835-8489, with In Memory of Carolyn Layton written on the memo line of the check.
