Frances Ryan Johnson Measell

   Frances Ryan Johnson Measell, 87, of Mulberry Hill Lane, Edenton, NC, passed away on Saturday, June 9, 2018, in her home.

 

   Mrs. Measell was born in Shenandoah County, VA on July 7, 1930, and was the daughter of the late Leslie L. and Evelyn Bell Ryan. A homemaker, she was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Edenton, a board member of the Edenton-Chowan Food Pantry, a volunteer at the Cupola House for Pilgrimage and Christmas tours, and founded the Knitted Cap Program at Chowan Hospital.

 

   In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Fred O. Johnson (married 20 years) and Howard L. Measell (married 23 years); a son, Stephen L. Johnson; a grandson Carson Bly; and a sister, Patricia Ryan Simms.

 

   Surviving are three daughters, Paula S. Michalak of Saline, MI, Christy L. Walker of Strasburg, VA, and Christine B. Measell of Syracuse, NY; a son, John H. Measell and wife, Liane, of Centreville, VA; 12 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

 

   A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, August 24, at First Presbyterian Church, Edenton.

 

   In accordance with her wishes, flowers are to be omitted, and contributions may be made to either the First Presbyterian Church, 200 S. Moseley Street, or to the Edenton-Chowan Food Pantry, P.O. Box 643, both in Edenton, NC 27932.
