Julia Mae Lane Ashley, 71, of 227 Sandy Ridge Road, Edenton, NC, passed away on Sunday, June 24, 2018, in Sentara Albemarle Medical Center, Elizabeth City.
Mrs. Ashley was born in Chowan County on July 10, 1946, and was the daughter of the late Luther and Leora Goodwin Lane. A homemaker, she was a member of Center Hill Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an unnamed infant brother, infant brothers Marvin Earl and William Fentress, sisters Thelma Koenig and Beulah Turner, and by brothers, Melvin and Thurman Earl Lane.
Surviving are her husband of nearly 55 years, Roy Lee Ashley, Sr.; two daughters, Lisa Kaye Ashley Williams and husband, Robert, and Brenda Dawn Ashley Pate and husband, Robin, all of Hertford; a son, Roy Lee Ashley, Jr. and wife, Cari, of Edenton; a sister, Bessie Lane Newby of Edenton; two brothers, Alton “Red” Lane of Edenton and James “Jimmy” Lane of Hertford; three grandchildren, Bradley Ashley and wife, Heather, and Heather Williams Hartman and husband, Nicholas, all of Edenton, and Ashley Williams Bailey and husband, Kyle, of Leoma, TN; and three great-grandchildren, Adalyn and Kip Bailey, and Lauren Hartman.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, and will be conducted by the Rev. Doug Murray. The burial will follow in Beaver Hill Cemetery. Friends may join the family Tuesday from 7 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home and other times at the residence.
