J. Albert Riddick

   James Albert Riddick, 90, of 893 Acorn Hill Road, Hobbsville, NC, passed away on Thursday, June 28, 2018, in Sentara Albemarle Medical Center, Elizabeth City.

 

   Mr. Riddick was born in Gates County on September 28, 1927, and was the son of the late Jake A. and Rosa Lee Ward Riddick. A retired farmer, he also had worked with the Gates County ABC Board in the Hwy 32/Folly Road package store. A member of Sandy Cross Baptist Church, he was a member of its Adult Men’s Sunday School Class, and had served as a deacon. A veteran, he had served in the United States Army.

 

   In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Patty Jo Pulley; his daughter-in-law, Patricia Ann “Pat” Riddick; and by his brother, Howard Riddick.

 

   Surviving are his wife of 73 years, Elva Mae Britt Riddick; his daughter, Rita R. Corprew and husband, Bobby, of Hertford; his son, William G. “Billy” Riddick of Sunbury; four sisters, Eloise Hollowell and Dolna Mae Proctor, both of Hertford, Annie Marie Ward of Suffolk, VA, and Carolyn Harris of Chuckatuck, VA; his brother, Fred N. Riddick, Sr. of Sunbury; five grandchildren, Connie Smithson (W.E.), Jay Corprew (Kristie), William A. Riddick (Dana), Alan Corprew (Rebecca), and Kimberly Riddick; ten great-grandchildren, Cody Sawyer, Dustin Winslow (Adrianna), Michael Corprew (Toni), Jonathan Corprew, Katelyn Riddick, Will Riddick, Katelyn Corprew, Dean Corprew, Fantasia Corprew, and Patrick Morgan; and a great-great-granddaughter, Aubrielle Corprew.

 

   Funeral services will be held Sunday at 4:00 p.m. in Sandy Cross Baptist Church, and will be conducted by his pastor, Rev. Gary Nistler, his grandson, Evangelist Jay Corprew, and by his nephew, Dr. Wayne Proctor. The private burial will follow in the family cemetery near the home. Friends may join the family in the social hall immediately following the service on Sunday, and all other times at the residence.
