Dorothy Eure Baines

   Dorothy Mae Eure Baines, 92, of 123 Main Street, Gatesville, NC, passed away on Saturday, June 30, 2018, in Gates House Assisted Living.

   Mrs. Baines was born in Edgecombe County on August 24, 1925, and was the daughter of the late Wesley F. “Fayte” Eure and Linda Crawford Eure. She was retired from the Gates County School System, and had worked in the cafeterias of both Gatesville Elementary and Gates County High Schools. Raised in the fellowship of Cool Spring Baptist Church where her family roots run deep, she and her late husband were longtime members of Gatesville Baptist Church.

   In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Edgar Baines; by an infant son, Donnie Ray Baines; by her sister, Lois Williamson; and by her brother, James Alton Eure.

   Surviving are two sons, Wilbur F. Legg and wife, Pauline, and J. Eddie Baines and wife, Lisa, all of Eure; a brother, John Wesley Eure of Portsmouth, VA; four grandchildren, Dwayne Legg, Jeff Legg and wife, Erika, Crystal Perry and husband, Bracey, and Christina B. Dougherty and husband, Patrick; and four great-grandchildren, Morgan, Grace, Abbie, and Gunner.

   Funeral services will be held Friday at 11:00 a.m. in Cool Spring Baptist Church and will be conducted by the Rev. Joe McKnight and the Rev. Wayne Gardner. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may join the family Thursday from 7 to 8 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville, and other times at Wilbur and Pauline’s home, 1380 NC Hwy 137, Eure.
