Billy Hollowell

   William Baker “Billy” Hollowell, 74, of 535 Cannon’s Ferry Road, Tyner, NC, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday, July 23, 2018 in Vidant Chowan Hospital, following a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease.

   Born on March 14, 1944, he was a lifelong resident of Chowan County and was the son of the late Thomas Raymond and Vera Benton Hollowell. Employed for twelve years with Union Camp in Franklin, VA, for many years he had been self-employed having worked with his wife in their family business. An avid outdoorsman, he loved fishing and hunting, and enjoyed membership in both Cannon’s Ferry and Oak Grove Hunt Clubs. A faithful servant of God, he was a member of Ballard’s Bridge Baptist Church.

   A loving husband, father, and grandfather, surviving are his wife of 55 wonderful years, Doris Bass Hollowell; four children, Michael Hollowell of Tyner, Sharon Pendleton and husband, Shawn, of Kill Devil Hills, Deborah Taylor and husband, Jim, and Christian Dendy and husband, Terry, all of Tyner; 12 grandchildren, Dillon, Brooke, Christopher, Cady, and Tyler Hollowell, Kye Pendleton, Zach, Justin, and Jared Taylor, and Adam, Aaron, and Alex Dendy; and six great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his sister, Rita H. Chappell of Hobbsville; a brother, Thomas R. Hollowell, Jr. of Tyner; a niece, many nephews, and extended family members.

   Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. in Ballard’s Bridge Baptist Church, and will be conducted by his pastor, The Rev. Ron Parr. A private burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may join the family Tuesday from 7 to 8 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, or in the church fellowship hall immediately following the service, or all other times at the residence.
