Barney Harrell Rountree

   Barney Harrell Rountree, 60, of 1079 US 158 West, Gates, NC, passed away on Tuesday, July 24, 2018, in Sentara Obici Hospital, Suffolk, VA.

   Mr. Rountree was born in Chowan County on May 20, 1958, and was the son of the late Walter Wiggins “Monk” Rountree and JoAnne Harrell Rountree. Formerly employed with Bundy Logging in Gatesville, he was raised in the fellowship of Hobbsville Baptist Church.

   Surviving are his wife of nearly 40 years, Kay Felton Rountree; his daughter, Kathlyn Nicole Rountree of Gates; his son, John Eric Rountree and wife, Shirley Lee, of Como; two sisters, Betty Jo Riddick of Corapeake and Sandra Lee of Norfolk, VA; a brother, Kenneth Rountree of Gates; his granddaughter, Addison Belle Rountree; and his faithful canine companion, Jake.

   A memorial service will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in Eure Christian Church and will be conducted by Pastor Wade Bennett. Friends may join the family for a time of visitation in the church social hall immediately after the service, or all other time at Kathlyn’s home, 419 Reynoldson Road, Gates.
