Sarah Elizabeth Cartwright Evans, 94, of Camden, NC, died Wednesday, August 1, 2018 in her home.
Mrs. Evans was born in Pasquotank County on July 31, 1924, and was the daughter of the late Martin V. "Vannie" and Mary Anderson "Macie" Cartwright. Along with her husband, the late Raymond Lee Evans, she owned and operated the former Spur Gas Station. A member of Matoaca Council #10 Degree of Pocahontas, she had also attended Camden United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Baxter Sawyer, a sister, Dorothy Reid, and by two brothers, Alton and Robert Cartwright.
Surviving are her three children, Joyce Raye Markham and husband, Marty, Raymond Earl "Squirrel" Evans and wife, Sheila, all of Elizabeth City, and Kay Sawyer of Shawboro; three grandchildren, Rene, Kevin, and Chris; seven great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.
Graveside services will be held Friday at 11:00 a.m. in New Hollywood Cemetery, Elizabeth City, and will be conducted by Pastor Marc O'Neal. Friends may join the family at Kay's home, 1320 Shawboro Road, Shawboro.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Camden United Methodist Church, 197 NC Hwy 343 South, Camden, NC 27921.
