Melissa McPherson McDonald

   Melissa Colleen McPherson McDonald, 48, of 573 Woodville Road, Hertford, NC, passed away Monday, August 6, 2018 in Duke University Hospital, Durham.

   Born in Pasquotank County on February 8, 1970, she was the daughter of Linda Perry McPherson Weeks of Elizabeth City and the late Clarence Hinton "C.H." McPherson. A loving and devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend, she was outgoing, full of life, and continually put the needs of others before her own. An extreme racing fan, she enjoyed everything from watching her son racing his motorcycle on the flat track, to attending NHRA, NASCAR, and Drag Boat races. She attended Mt. Sinai Baptist Church.

   In addition to her mother, surviving are her high school sweetheart and husband of 26 years, Buddy McDonald; a son, Hinton McDonald; a daughter, Colleen McDonald; two brothers, Perry and Andy McPherson, all of Hertford; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members and friends.

   A memorial service will be held Saturday at 3:00 p.m. in the Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Chapel, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, and will be conducted by the Rev. Howard Sutton. Friends may join the family in the funeral home immediately following the service on Saturday, and all other times at the residence.

   In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to any chapter of the American Lung Association.
