Julia Mitchell Dixon

   Julia Caramae Mitchell Dixon, 68, passed away on Sunday, September 2, 2018, in Vidant Medical Center, Greenville.

   Mrs. Dixon was born in the St. John community of Hertford County on June 4, 1950, and was the daughter of the late Percy Lee and Margaret Wilson Williford Mitchell. In earlier years she had worked at the West Point factory, and later, with her husband, owned and operated The Dixon House Assisted Living in Grifton. She was a member of St. John Baptist Church.

   In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert M. Dixon, Jr.; her sisters, Lenora Hughes and Jo Sharion Winn; and by her brothers, Sidney and Wilson Lee Mitchell.

   Surviving are her daughter, Carla Hewitt Gray and husband, Mark, and their son, Trevor, of Grifton; three sisters, Patricia Penwell and Winifred Mitchell, both of Aulander, and Stella Hofler and husband, Willie Earl, of Gatesville; her twin brother, Julius Mitchell; and her brother–in-law, Tom Winn, both of Aulander.

   Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 12 noon in St. John Baptist Church and will be conducted by the Rev. Elee Penwell and the Rev. Douglas L. Van Niel. A private burial will follow in the Aulander Cemetery. Friends are invited to visit with the family in the church both the hour prior to service, or immediately following the service, on Wednesday.
