Beulah Chappell Phthisic

   Beulah Chappell Phthisic, 96, of 389 Hunter’s Fork Road, Tyner, NC, passed away on Tuesday, September 4, 2018, in her home.

   Mrs. Phthisic was born in Chowan County on September 20, 1921, and was the last surviving of six children born to the late Herbert James and Sarah Bunch Chappell. A homemaker and farmer’s wife, she was a member of Piney Woods Friends Meeting and had been active in the Extension Homemakers Quilters Guild.

   In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 73 years, McCoy Phthisic; her daughter, Mary Phthisic Ward; her sisters, Geneva Chappell (Louis) and Margie Wood (John); and by her brothers, Wallace (Dorrie Mae), Edward (Sybil), and Mayward Chappell.

   Surviving are her son, Robert McCoy Phthisic and wife, Linda; and her son-in-law, Paul H. “Bobby” Ward, Jr., all of Tyner; four grandchildren, Scott Phthisic and wife, Karen, Paul Ward, III and wife, Pam, Tim Phthisic and wife, Cindy, and Leah Ward; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Rita Chappell of Hobbsville.

   Funeral services will be held Friday at 11:00 a.m. in Piney Woods Friends Meeting and will be conducted by Pastors Jeremy Pugh and Frank Carter. A private burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may join the family in the fellowship hall of the Meeting House immediately following the service, and all other times at the residence.
