Fentress McCoy Hill Jr, 64, passed away peacefully at his Walnut Cove, NC, home on Thursday, August 30, 2018. McCoy was born on December 21, 1953 in Suffolk, Virginia, the son of Fentress M. Hill, Sr. and Mildred Blanchard Hill. He graduated from Gates County High School in 1972 and Wake Forest University in 1976. McCoy was the sales manager at Dudley Theatrical Equipment of Winston-Salem. Since 1982, McCoy provided knowledgeable and generous service to area theatres, schools, and churches. A respected lighting designer, he used his talents for numerous productions at The Little Theatre of Winston-Salem and the Winston-Salem Theatre Alliance. He was known for his ability to create something beautiful while always being kind, calm, and patient. McCoy is survived by his wife Tammy of nearly 28 years and his sister and brother-in-law Patricia and Robert Shoum of Henderson, Nevada. McCoy was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Mary Ann Hill. Arrangements will be handled by Miller Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held in Gatesville, NC on Saturday, September 8 at 2:00 p.m. To honor McCoy, the family asks that friends continue to support the arts, cancer research, or a charity of their choice.
