Paul Alan Cherry, Sr.

   Paul Alan Cherry, Sr., 65, of 418 Wickham Road, Shiloh, NC, passed away Monday, September 17, 2018, following a short battle with cancer.

   Born in Columbus, OH on March 18, 1953, he was the son of the late Norman Doyle and Dorothy Ohlinger Cherry, and one of nine children in the family. A Navy man to all who knew him, he was a retired Master Chief Machinist Mate having served on the USS Donald B. Beary (FF-1085), USS Flint (AE-32), USS Arkansas (CGN-41, USS Saipan (LHA-2), and as an Engineering instructor in Newport, RI. Memberships enjoyed included both the William Clarence Jackson Post 6060 of Veterans of Foreign Wars and Riddle Pentecostal Holiness Church. Known for his storytelling talent and service for others, some of his community involvement included being active with Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Navy Relief Society, and the American Red Cross.

   Paul leaves behind to honor his memory a wife of 22 years, Yvonne Marriner Cherry; four children, Paul A. Cherry, II of Raleigh, Nannette Jones (Chris) of Elizabeth City, Crystal Conant (Curtis) of Charlotte, and Ray Lawson of Durham; six grandchildren, Johnathan Beales, and Katherine and Christopher Jones, all of Elizabeth City, and Heavyn, Lilyth, and Temprynce Conant, all of Charlotte; and a very special "Mom", Viola Marriner of Shawboro.

   A memorial service will be held Saturday at 4:00 p.m. in Riddle Pentecostal Holiness Church, and will be conducted by Pastor Jon Mason. Friends may join the family in the church social hall immediately following the service on Saturday, and all other times at the residence.

   The family wishes to express their deep appreciation to the physicians and staff at Sentara Albemarle Medical Center and Virginia Oncology Associates for all the care they have provided during their time of need.
